ROAG (Race Organisers Admin Group)
is proud to announce the introduction of a new national mountain
biking series - The ROAG Series. The aim of the
Series is to boost interest in the sport by recognising
up-and-coming youngsters, rewarding top quality riders, and
providing a platform for weekend-warriors to challenge their
mates.
The ROAG Series will consist of ten of the largest MTB ROAG
Administered Events (Including the Sunday Tribune Jeep
Hill2Hill) that take place throughout 2012. In year one
the MTB events are going to be based in and around Kwa-Zulu Natal,
and will be more dispersed over South Africa in years to
come.
Big prize money (with a minimum of R20 000 for the overall
winner of both the men's and women's race) will be up for
grabs at the yearend ROAG Series Awards Dinner, where riders'
achievements will be acknowledged, and dedicated Series riders
(those who have ridden all ten events) will receive a ROAG Series
memento.
The first event of the Series is the Cycle Lab Wartburg MTB
Classic taking place on the 25th of
February at Wartburg Kirchdorf School, Wartburg.
There will be no cost to
take part in the Series. However, participants will need
to pay the normal entry fee required for each race as well as the
necessary CSA Membership fees.
What are the
Prizes?
There will be a minimum of
R20 000 for the overall winner in both the men's
and women's races. The full prize list will be announced
at a later stage. Prizes will be given to all category winners.

What are the Rules?
- Riders are required to take part
and finish in at least seven out of the ten events
(see list of event above) in the series to be in contention for any
prizes.
- A Grand Prix points system will
decide the category winners with the top 50 riders overall and in
each age category being awarded points (see below for ROAG Grand
Prix points). At the end of the series, the riders with the most
points from their best seven results overall and in each age
category will be used to decide finishing positions in each of the
respective categories.
- If a tie occurs at the end of the
series, the finishing positions of the riders in the tie will be
decided by using the best six results (in other words, to break a
tie the worst result of the seven that count will be discarded). If
there is still a tie then the best five results will count and so
on. If the tie still cannot be broken with only one result
counting, the riders will share the combined prizes.
- Riders must take part in the
correct distance for each age category to earn points toward the
final log positions.
- The overall prize is only for
riders doing the full distance events (thus nippers, sprogs and sub
juniors are not eligible for the overall prize) and is calculated
separately to the age category prizes. In other words a sub vet can
win overall and also be eligible for sub vets category prizes
(although he will earn different points according to where he
finishes overall and in the sub vets category). Youth and juniors
are eligible for the overall prize only if they complete seven
events, but they may not take part in the full distance event at
the Sunday Tribune Jeep Hill 2 Hill and are thus not eligible to
earn overall points from this race.
- A rider may only earn points in
the age category according to his birth date. In other words a
veteran rider cannot chose to compete as a sub vet.
- Overall points are calculated for
male and female riders separately (in other words the top 50 males
and top 50 females are awarded points at each race).
- Should any dispute occur, a
committee of three people appointed by ROAG will arbitrate and
their decision will be final and binding. The committee is as
follows: Nicole Talbot (ROAG), Tim Whitfield (Sunday Tribune) &
Vicky Peddle (KZN MTB).
- Should a series race be cancelled
for any reason whatsoever the decision to replace the event in the
series with another, and how the points calculations will be
amended, is solely at the discretion of ROAG who will inform riders
via the ROAG website of their decision.
- ROAG will administer the series
and their decisions are final and binding. By taking part in the
series all riders agree to be bound by the rules as decided by
ROAG.
