“Raw and Unplugged Mountain Biking” coming to Howick
The 2013 edition of The Howick MTB Classic – presented by Sappi, is set to roll out their traditional challenging mountain biking routes, maximizing their catch phrase: “Raw and Unplugged Mountain Biking!”
On June, 2 the Howick Mountain Bike Club, with Amarider accredited trail management system, has delivered two longer race route for those who thrive on challenging mountain biking with lots of single track.
“The 20km route is a stand-a-lone shorter version of the 40km, which means those not too keen to take on the longer distance get the full experience of Howick’s renowned single track,” said Event Organiser Gordon Beard.
“The 40km race is truly single track nirvana, with course designer Ken Pascoe throwing as much of Howick’s single track into the route as possible,” Beard said, adding that jeep track sections will allow for flow of cyclists and will reduce the single track congestion.
Two large chicken runs late on route allow the weary bodies to make choices, which will be decisive in who finishes ahead of whom.
For the younger set, and future mountain biking stars, the10km River route provides a challenging race, along the Umgeni river conservancy area.
In line with focusing on MTB trail management, the Howick Mountain Bike Club invites all participants to sign up as country members on race day to allow you year-round access to an area that holds arguably the finest “raw and unplugged” mountain biking back trail system in the country.
