DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE:
Fancy a long race route to challenge your endurance? Need a long training ride before Karkloof or Sani2C? Keen on riding a fast route with mainly district road? Wanna experience the scenery of the Ukhahlamba World Heritage Site? Would you like to ride the longest downhill in any SA race?

If you answered yes to any of these, then read on my two wheeled friends!

Starting in the iconic midlands village of Nottingham Road at Clifton School, this route starts off through picturesque farm and forest lands before joining the gravel district road bound for Loteni.

The climbs are long, but so are the descents, and the riding is not at all technical.

Unlike most race routes now days, this route is aimed at making a very long ride accessible to intermediate riders. The difficulty of this race lies in the distance, not the terrain.

Almost the entire race takes place on district road, and when you are trying to crush 100 kilometres, that's a good thing. It allows you to have a higher average speed and that means a faster finishing time.

Make no mistake though, there are some tough climbs getting out of some of the big river valleys, the Umko Valley not being the least of them, but the reward of a 13km downhill and riding through the beautiful foothills of the Southern Drakensburg more than makes up for this, with some of the best race scenery around. Four water tables along the way will keep you fuelled and charging all the way to the finish.

Being a one-day, point-to-point race, means you have to organize for someone to fetch you on the other end. Fortunately being in the middle of the Midlands Meander, there are a host of galleries, coffee shops, craft shops and more to keep everyone entertained and there is plenty of accommodation in both Notties and Himeville/ Underburg, to make a great weekend out of it.

The transfer route the get to Himeville is along the beautiful and tarred Howick/ Underburg road, so getting to the finish is a breeze.
