16 August 2010
The 2010 Claas Tour de Krantz, brought to you by aQuelle, took
place on Saturday the 7th of August 2010 in near perfect
conditions. We had a record turn out of cyclists, over 800
altogether. The day dawned cool and misty, but as the riders
where setting off on their various races, the mist slowly lifted,
to afford the cyclists crisp and clear views over the valley of a
thousand hills. With the very able and efficient help of the ROAG
girls, registration went off without a glitch and for the first
time, the riders set off in batches. This delayed the start times
slightly, but from report backs I have received from cyclists, was
worth every minute as there were no congestion out on the course
and everybody could enjoy the flowing down-hills and even the
killer up-hills. Out on the course conditions were dry and dusty,
but with the well-marked route, the friendly water-tables and
the good KZN winter-weather, a grand time was had by most. The 45km
Classic was won by Brandon Stewart, with Andrew Hill in second
place and Brendon Davids hot on his heels. In the Ladies race,
Landy Puddu was in nearly 15minutes before Kirsty Scott, with
Andrea De Boer following closely. Back at the race village,
the Harburg Fest was in full swing, with delicious German fare on
sale. There was such a demand for this that we even sold out of
some options before everyone had their fill and we apologize to
those who had to go without! Please come back next year for more.
Last, but not least, I would just like to thank Farmers Agricare
who came on board, sponsoring the 10km Fun ride, as well as B-Max
with the Primary Schools league. Our young, up-and-coming cyclists
enjoyed a fast ride, with Ryan Way winning the under 12 boys
category and Kayla-Jade Berry winning the girls category. A big
thank you to all of you who contributed to making the
11th Tour de Krantz a happy, successful day.
