Cumberland Classic
20 May 2010
The Table Mountain Farmers pulled off another successful
Cumberland Super Classic, which was enjoyed by 1200 participants.
The classic provided some really exciting racing up front with
David Leiman just managing to out sprint Andrew Hill to take line
honors.
The ladies race was just as exiting with Shale Exelby and Jean
Hackland racing neck and neck right until the finish with Shale
winning by 10 seconds.
The intermediate ride took the riders along some spectacular
scenery with Dani Jensen crossing the line in first place. Alan
Hatherly winning the Sub Junior race ahead of Brandon Venter and
the first girl, Savannah Schuit in a brilliant 3rd place.
While some family members opted to picnic under the Acacia trees
others rode the enjoyable 10km fun ride or jogged along side their
children riding or scooting along the kiddies 2km ride.
With a picturesque venue and single track that is raved about by
the classic riders, it is not surprising that this event has become
so popular with elite athletes and with families to enjoy a day
out. Despite the race not having a sponsor, the farmers managed to
provide a well organized, hassle free event that has been raved
about by many.
