THE third John Dory's Golovane had a distinctly new-look feel
about it with a fantastic new sponsor and a new route for 2010,
both of which proved to be outstanding successes.
John Dory's came on board as the title sponsors and
brought a whole series of extras, ranging from an increased prize
fund which meant the winning man and woman each left Holla Trails
R3 000 richer, to a R50 Mr Funtubbles voucher to each finisher in
the kids event (not bad for a R35 entry fee) and a host of other
extras and lucky draw prizes.
Out front in the main event, the 48km classic, Team Jeep's
Craig Paul set up his victory when he managed to open a gap on TIB
Insurance's Andrew Hill on a short hill at about halfway. Hill
finished second followed by Shaun Peschl, Ryan Ellis and David
Leiman. In the women's event Tamryn Taylor held of a fast-finishing
Bev Wood with Kirsty Scott third.
There were close on a thousand entrants for the event and
the superb venue at Holla Trails, combined with live music, a
full kids entertainment area, and races over 48km, 20km and
5km meant it was genuine day out for the whole family.
