31 May 2010
This years Greytown Mountain bike Festival took place on the
22nd and 23rd May at "The Beehive" in
Greytown. We were graced with near perfect weather for the entire
weekend. The Festival is structured around a stage race. Riders
were offered the choice of a Full Stage consisting of a 60km ride
on Saturday and a 45 km ride on Sunday. Unique to this event is the
Half stage which offered a 31km ride on Saturday and a 26km ride on
Sunday. Any combination of the rides could be done as individual
rides. The Fun rides of 10km and 3km were enjoyed by the kids and
beginners.
In line with our aim of being a family week end we offered Trail
runs on Sunday on our 26km and 10km courses. The camping and
B&B's were well supported and we had a large contingent
watching our Big Screen Rugby Bonanza where all were relaxed
knowing the Sharks couldn't lose.
The Sunday rides were part of the N3TC Super Classic. The Full
Stage was won by Shaun Peschel, followed by Jeremy Thompson and the
Ladies section was won by Yolandi du Toit followed by Jean
Hackland. The Half Stage was won by Youth category member Stephan
van Eck followed by Sub Junior Bryce Rawlins. The Ladies section
was won by Sub Junior Savannah Schuit followed by Sub Junior
Rochell van Eck.
The hotly contested Sub Junior series was won by Alan Hatherly
followed by Carlo Marzoppi. The Girls section was won by Savannah
Schuit followed by Emily Chalmers Banks.
The Intermediate ride overall winner was Alan Hatherly followed
by Stephan van Eck. The Ladies overall winner was Liz Alexander
followed by Savannah Schuit.
The main event of the week end, our 45km Super Classic was won
by Andrew Warr, closely followed by Travis Walker. The Ladies
section was won by Yolandi du Toit and followed by Melanie
Palframan
