The Matat Fees held on the 13th of
November 2011 at the Matatiele Country Club was a successful family
event thoroughly enjoyed by all those who participated.
The goat route was tough but enjoyable, from 3km to 11km they
climb from 1440m to 2100m. King of the Mountain mens was won by
'Wheelie King' Tyrone Bird crowned "He Goat" and ladies by Zoe
Lambert, crowned "She Goat". Each won R500.00 sponsored by Berg
Signs Matatiele. The sheep route joined up with the goats route at
21km and the lamb route linked up with the main route at 32 km so
everyone started and finished on same route.
As it was not a timed event or official race the organiser did
not give positional prizes. BUT - All cyclist go lucky draws main
sponsor of cycling prize was Hatton's Cycles. Thanks go to De Shane
who joined us for the Saturday evening and Sunday morning.
Bet he enjoyed Sat nights party / opskop and it was good to see his
2 sons enjoying the weekend with him.
The views that the route had to offer were enjoyed by the riders
who promised to return, with friends. Baboons Pass was a bit hectic
but fast and flowing single track as well as good marking made it a
great ride for all.
The lucky draw for the MTB was won by Johan Schoeman of PMB who
is a motor biker (Maybe we can convert him to mountain biking). The
organiser also gave away additional small prizes such as water
pistols, water bottles, pens and key rings to the enthusiastic
young spectators. A mountain bike sponsored by Rhino Cash &
Carry Matatiele was handed over to Cross Roads Children Home in
Matatiele. The giving spirit didn't end there: the organisers also
collected ± 300 pairs of shoes which will be giving to the needy
kids in the nearby rural areas.
